Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarships (OURS)
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarships (OURS), established in 1997, is a center charged with integrating undergraduates more fully into the vital research life of the university. The center works to increase undergraduate and faculty collaboration in research, to support greater participation in research by faculty and students, to promote existing research activities and programs on campus, and to develop resources and funding necessary to expand undergraduate research opportunities, thus enhancing student learning and satisfaction.
OURS directly administers the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program, the Haas Scholars Program, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF L&S and SURF/Rose Hills), and the Judith Lee Stronach Baccalaureate Prize. It also houses two major campus journals that publish undergraduate research: Berkeley Undergraduate Journal, for research in the humanities and social sciences, and Berkeley Scientific, for research in the sciences. In addition, the center supports students who are applying to nationally prestigious scholarships and maintains the Scholarship Connection website.
Scholarship Connection
Scholarship Connection is UC Berkeley’s clearinghouse for information on scholarships that are funded by sources outside the University. The Scholarship Connection website is run by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Prestigious Scholarships (OUR). They receive hundreds of scholarship notices each year. Competition for these awards may be local, national, or international in scope, and scholarship deadlines and requirements vary.
